The Sun: An Illustration for "Sun and Moon, Chapter 6: The Grass in the Wind"
This is the first of two illustrations that I'm creating around my current fic series, "Sun and Moon". My goal is to use the pictures to reflect the text, but also to augment them and anticipate some of the narrative to come. I definitely feel more confident about my writing than my ability as an artist but it's fun to be able to supplement my written work with a few visuals. Some of the ideas for the design, colour and composition are obviously influenced by the prints of Van Gogh and Klimt paintings hanging around my room.
If you'd like to see a larger version, clicking the picture should link you through to a more detailed one in my DeviantArt gallery.

Wow! Its great! You can
Wow! Its great! You can really notice the passion and feeling the two have. The use of Van Gogh's style of art is strange.....but effective nonetheless.

Thank you! You're
Thank you! You're right: the style choice is strange for fan art, but I'm actually kind of pleased with how my weird decision turned out. :D
I'm jealous
Congratulations on doing Van Gogh so well. He's one of my favourite artists. The detail on the clothing is really spectacular. I'm curious though. What did you use to make this? It almost looks like crayon maybe colored pencil. I'm super jealous that you are lucky enough to be able to write AND draw. I wish so much that I could do this kind of thing for my story, but I don't think stick figures will cut it.
Nice guess on the materials
Nice guess on the materials - you came very close! It's actually a mix of pencil crayon and pastels. My materials budget isn't great and because I'm more of an enthusiastic dabbler than a real 'artiste', I end up using a lot of inexpensive media like pastels, conte and of course, pencils, rather than the awesome studio-level stuff.
On the topic of illustrations,I'd actually be pretty interested to look at any drawings, stick figure or otherwise that you happened to draw to supplement The Prodigal Knight. I find it really cool just seeing how an author whose writing I like translates his or her own work from text to image.
