TARIS
20 YEARS AFTER THE RETURN OF REVAN AND THE EXILE FROM UNKNOWN REGIONS
The woman pulled her five year old daughter by the hand through the lower city of Taris. The girl was still groggy from sleep having only been yanked from her bed a few minutes ago. As they ran however she grew more aware of her mothers anxiety and tension and the foreboding that seemed to permeate the area.
"Seria?" she called her mother by her Christian name.
"Shh! They have come, you must be quiet. I know you can sense them but do not panic my Jinx. I know a place."
Seria was now moving very quickly and the child took two steps to each of her one. She regret not having the time to teach her daughter more about the Force but their constant movement had made it difficult. For years they had moved from planet to planet through the outer rim never staying in one place for long. She had been careful, masking any trace she left, but she had not fully considered her daughters connection to the Force.
It was yesterday, during one of their grocery runs, when Jinx saw a feathered dog that Seria found out her daughter could even draw on it. Feathered dogs were an uncommon site in the lower city but it was obvious why this one had been dumped, the fur around its mouth was matted with blood and it was having trouble breathing, it was old. Some rich punk couldn't be bothered with it any more and had left it to die. But her daughter, when Seria had been bartering the price of caffa, had taken an interest in it, gone up to it and caressed its head. She only realised Jinx was no longer at her side when she felt a surge of Force. For one sickly moment she thought they had been discovered and looked around wildly. Jinx was walking toward her with the dog happily and healthily in tow...
They reached the room full of elevators that lead to the Undercity and Seria locked the outer door then pushed all the call buttons on the elevators.
"Three blasted elevators and all of them down in the Undercity!"
...."what have you done?" Seria exclaimed
"He was hurt and I fixed him, he's such a nice dog. Can we keep him?"
"No! You have no idea what you have done! We must...we have to..." Her face went dark, she reached into the Force and out to the dog and promptly snapped its neck.
Jinx just stood there looking at the corpse until she was dragged by her mother back to their apartment. They packed and were going to leave in the morning. But the morning didn't come fast enough...
There was a bang followed by the sharp ping of metal shrapnel hitting the metal door. Seria checked the elevators, one should have been here by now. She impatiently forced one of the doors open then realised none of them had moved an inch upward.
"I will not go back, I will not go back!" Seria fell to her knees sobbing as the bombardment of the door continued.
"Seria?"
Jinx was afraid now, Seria had always been strong, never giving up. Yet here she was crying and raving to herself.
"They cannot take me again! I wont let them! Jinx come here. My child the option is yours. We have been found. I have never told you why we are always moving and running but you should know so that you can choose. Those who chase us are known as the Sith."
The sounds at the door stopped, creating an eerie silence.
Seria spoke quicker. "They come for...for you."
"Me, why would they want me? I..."
"Shh! Let me finish. There is no time to tell you everything." She took a breath and continued in a rush. "When my younger sister was accepted into the Jedi Academy it was sensed by the Masters of the Order that I to had a connection to the Force. They did not accept me though saying I was too old. I felt so lost, my sister and I were so close until this time and I begun to hate her for 'leaving' me as it were and for the young Jedi that only had eyes for her and barely noticed my existence."
Shuffling and the click of charges being attached could be heard though the door.
"I travelled to the outer rim planets and during the Mandalorian Wars was taken by the Sith who strengthened their ranks with any who could wield the Force. I fell to the Dark Side and fought against the Jedi in the Civil War. I revelled in chaos until you were born. At first I hated you, with as much venom as I hated my sister, for what you represented. But then realised it was hate for myself and what I had become. So I ran, taking you with me. They want you back because you can use the Force, I am...expendable but will not chance them letting me live for it will be much more horrible than death. That elevator shaft is my escape, I suggest you follow, for these are beings of true malice, but it is your choice. Now come closer."
Seria pulled Jinx's ear to her mouth and whispered two names. One was the name of Seria's sister and one was the name of the young Jedi who had, without knowing it, broken her heart.
"If you choose to stay in this world they will help you, trust no one else no matter what."
"Who...who is my father then?"
"His name holds much power, I will not speak it. No doubt you will find out. I am sorry, I have failed you as a mother. Promise me that you will not make the same mistake as I did."
"I promise."
"Perhaps if I had taught you about the Force this would not have happened..."
And with that Seria Shan jumped through the door and fell silently to the Undercity of Taris.
Jinx didn't really know what to do, the news her mother had told her and the names left her confused. She had not realised her mother even had a sister. She did not want to die, she didn't understand her mothers fear and so she did not follow her.
There was an ear splitting boom and the scream of metal tearing. The last thing Jinx saw was the shards of wall and door flying into the room before something very heavy collided with her head and blackness engulfed the world.
