Reviews and comments dos and don'ts

Reviews make the fanfic world go round! Please keep the following dos and don'ts in mind when you're reviewing.

Do
  • Review early, review often! If you liked a story or piece of art don't be shy about telling the person, even if you don't know them!
  • Feel free to make suggestions! If you have any advice on how the story or art could be better, feel free to offer it up in a constructive manner. Point out what you liked, and then indicate the areas that you feel need some improvement. We all become better writers when we get feedback like this. For great hints on leaving good feedback, check out Tips for leaving concrit wthout looking like a jerk.
  • Return the favour. Has someone you don't know reviewed your story? Why not check out some of theirs?
Don't
  • Don't post on someone else's story just to promote yours.
  • No character bashing. If you don't like some character, don't read items about them.
  • Don't post just to say hi to someone. We are not a chat service.
  • Please, don't quote heaps of the story in your review. One or two lines is fine to point out the bits you want to refer to in your review, but there's no need to paste more than that into your comment.

The following is never OK.

As you'll remember from the Good Conduct section of the Terms of Service:

  • You may not use any service on this site to post content that is harassing, abusive, libelous or threatening towards any other person or entity. That basically means don't be a jerk.
  • You may not use any service on this site to impersonate any other person or entity with the intent to mislead. It's not OK to pretend to be someone else.
  • You may not use any service on this site for unsolicited commercial promotion or advertising (also known as spam). Ew.

Please be aware of the difference between constructive criticism and harassing or abusive comments. While it's OK to leave constructive feedback about something you didn't like, it's never OK to go that extra step and be nasty to them.
