The Gizka House o' Slippers

Every sentient being in the galaxy wants to own a fabulous pair of gizka slippers from Farlander's Gizka House o' Slippers. Darth Mommy wears them with pride, and you should, too!

When you slip into these soft slippers, you'll understand exactly why everyone, from Sith Lords to Jedi Masters, simply cannot live without them. Unlike similar-looking imitations, our slippers are made from superior materials. Known as one of nature's best insulators, the hide of the rare furred gizka draws away moisture so your feet stay warmer on chilly trips through hyperspace. Best of all, the gizka fur wraps completely around your foot so you feel nothing but soft, warm fleece against your skin.

Now you can own your very own pair! With this how-to manual, you're already well on your way to the height of fashion.

Materials:

1 pair yellow slippers in your size (I ended up with furry ones, but you can use whatever you find.)

The official Farlander Gizka Face pattern

2 8" by 10" pieces of soft yellow felt

Pink Puffy Paint

Green Puffy Paint

Black Puffy Paint

White Puffy Paint

1 skein yellow embroidery floss

1 embroidery needle

batting (stuffing, fluff)

good scissors

Patience and a sense of humor

Step 1. Gather your materials and have a clear workspace. (fig 1.)

Step 2. Print out your official pattern, at about 5x7 size. Cut out the pattern, and cut your two pieces of felt in half so that you have four equal pieces. Lay the pattern atop two pieces of felt at a time, trace around it, and cut them out. (fig 2.) You should have four identical blank gizka faces.

Step 3. Thread the floss onto your needle and cut a good length, knotting the end. Take two of the gizka faces at a time and sew around the edge. (fig 3.) I used a whipstitch, it was easiest. Do not sew all the way around the gizka face; leave a hole big enough for the batting to go into. Repeat this process with the remaining two gizka faces. You should now have two double-layered blank gizka faces.

Step 4. Stuff the gizka faces with the batting, until they're as chubby as you like them. (fig 4.) I left mine fairly flat. When they are completely stuffed, sew around the open edge with the embroidery floss so that the entire face is complete.

Step 5. Draw the face on each gizka with a black pencil or marker, then paint in the details with the puffy paint. (fig 5.) Pink for the mouth, black for the outline of the mouth and the eyes, white for the whites of the eyes and green for the spots. Allow to dry overnight.

Step 6. Paint spots on the backs of the yellow slippers with the green puffy paint. (fig 6.) Allow to dry overnight. (Can be done immediately after step 5. and allowed to dry together.)

Step 7. When they are completely dry, sew the bottom layer of the gizka face to the front of the slipper with the embroidery floss. (fig 7.) I used a stitch under each cheek and the chin of each gizka face. Do not pull the thread through the batting and top layer of the gizka face; you do not want it to show.

Step 8. Wear them! Take pictures and amaze and delight your friends and family with your crafty handiwork. Enjoy!

Those look a little bit like The Cheat. Here's a picture.
